In the written text Romeo and Juliet the character Romeo is one that I enjoyed reading about in this text. Romeo is a member of the Montague family. He falls in love with Juliet, A member of the Capulet house. Romeo has many flaws and can be impulsive throughout the play. This impulsiveness gives him a sense of that he is still a teenager and will always act this way because of his age. This makes him a very enjoyable character because of his eagerness to dump Rosaline as soon as he meets Juliet. This is another impulsiveness decision that he has made because he has suddenly broken up with Rosaline. Because he feels depressed about Rosaline he then falls in love with Juliet because he his past relationship with Rosaline has become stale.
Romeo seems to have a set way on how he does things. This is shown in the text with the quote “You kiss by the book” said by Juliet when they first meet. This shows that Romeo’s style of kissing is un-original and lacks passion. This act made Romeo enjoyable because he develops from someone who is emotional and gloomy to someone who has passion and desire for Juliet. This is shown in the text with Romeos action of suicide when he is told of Juliet’s death. This is another example of Romeos impulsiveness because he acted too quickly without giving his thought too much thought. This made him more enjoyable through his impulsiveness.
One of the main ideas no good come from revenge shows up in many ways in the play. It is one of the main points of the play and is shown in the actions of the characters many times. An example of this is the fight between Tybalt and Mercutio. Mercutio is killed in this fight and then Romeo takes his revenge by killing Tybalt. Afterwards Romeo is then banished from Verona. He then goes to live in Mantua where he is isolated from Verona. The consequences of this are that Romeo is unable to be in contact with Juliet and he now has to live in exile from Verona. This means that no good can come from revenge because nothing good happened by killing Tybalt. Another example of this main idea is when Tybalt fights Romeo. Tybalt fights him because he wants revenge from Romeo crashing The Capulets Party. Tybalt then fights Romeo but kills Mercutio and then looses his life because of this. This also proves that nothing good comes from revenge because Tybalt then looses his life by Romeos hand because he killed Mercutio.
Romeos impulsiveness helped me understand the main idea of the consequences of revenge. And that no good comes from revenge. This is shown in the text with and example Mercutio’s death Romeo is suddenly overwhelmed by grief and his child like impulsiveness is shown when he kills Tybalt. This is shown with the quote “either thou or I must go with him” This shows that due to his impulsiveness he was prepared to kill himself or Tybalt This also helped me understand the character Romeo because of his impulsiveness and enjoy the character more.
